Jambo Jambo means "Hello, Hello" in Swahili, and you are invited to come and say hello to chef Joseph and the team at our brand new African restaurant at Shop 16, Crows Nest Plaza, 103 - 111 Willoughby Road Crows Nest (near Franklins). We are open for dinner 6pm till late Tuesday to Sunday. At last these hard to find flavours of Africa are available to a new audience on the North Shore. If you have never tried Ethiopian home cooking, you are in for a treat - Ethiopian cuisine uses traditional spices - not readily found in Australia - to create tasty vegetable and meat dishes, usually in the form of Wat (a thick stew), served atop Injera. Injera (or Enjera) is a sourdough type of flat bread made with teff, and forms the centrepiece of many Ethiopian meals. The injera is laid over the plate, while portions of stew are spooned on top of the bread in order to soak up the juices. You can tear off pieces by bread by hand, and scoop up the main dish, or you can roll the bread into wraps. |

Ethiopian meals are a fun social event, traditionally meals are served on platters for two or more people to share, so bring a friend or two and try the African dining experience! Enjera is used to scoop up the stews, which are of two main types: Wat and Alicha. The Wats are distinctive for their use of berbere, a classic Ethiopian seasoning based on the red peppers and various other secret spices varying according to your preference; mild to hot. The Alichas are delicately seasoned dishes with a milder taste. An African meal might be completed with coffee - the world's favourite drink, which originated in the Kaffa region of Ethiopia. If you have never tried Ethiopian cuisine, you are in for a treat, chef Joseph and the team hope to welcome you soon to Jambo Jambo! |
